Thunder rolls overhead, signalling a fresh wave of rain sweeping in over the lake. Morostide in Veta meant cloudy skies, with rain storms more frequent than usual. This year, however, had been a little different. Wesley didn't know if it was the influence of a pacified Tempest or Merana or something else, but it had rained every single day.
The green fields around the town were turning fast into muddy quagmires. The higher risk of landslides meant most large roads in and out of the mountains were closed, which prompted the more adventurous folk to try their hands at some of the alpine walking tracks.
This was fine by him, because it meant that business was booming for GoOutside. He was just about out of most sets of running shoes and hiking maps.
The first time they're taught about tamashii-fugou (soul marks) in the Academy, Nanao is uncomfortable. More than a few of her cohort shoot her sideways looks - well, not her, but the brush of faded violet along her hair line. Thankfully, Minoru-sensei ignores them and continues writing on the board. Her hand tightens around her pen and she focuses down on her notes. Kaa-san wouldn't want her to be distracted.
Two hours of theory and history later, they're let out for lunch. Nanao dawdles, waiting until everyone else has left the classroom. Minoru-sensei is still shuffling through everyone's turned in papers, but looks up with a smile.
- They can form between any two people who share a strong connection - whether that connection is present now, or will develop in the future. - All tamashii-fugou start out as blobs of colour, and refine over time into exquisite art. - This refining process can only happen when each bearer of the tamashii-fugou spend time in contact with each other. - Someone who already bears a fully developed soulmark, upon gaining a new soulmark, will have an impression of their prior soulmate within it. -
Her fingers smudge chocolate on the disposable cup, careful not to hold it too tight lest she quote-unquote "explode" it all over her civvies. Again. Look, she'd been startled by the purple ball flying directly at her head. Not really her fault, and the poor Hunter had apologised.
Still, it was the kind of incident that made one wary. Even at 0430 in the morning, you could never be sure what kind of weird stuff could be happening in the Plaza. This morning, at least, it was quiet.
Kaori (weaver) Yamauchi (inside mountain) - master of Diarmuid ua Duibhne (lancer) Blind, decent magus. Uses blood as a spellcasting catalyst. Was meant to be the catalyst for summoning a vampire servant. Spells: - I reinforce the boundary (cloaking) - Split and Scatter (duplication)
Jun Satou - master of Cu Chulainn (caster) Long hair, male, bit of a space case. Poor magus, accidentally summoned Caster. No spells.
Minato Matsushita - master of Li Shuwen (assassin) Short hair, male, hard-worker. Prefers enhancing themselves with prana and fighting hand to hand.
The irony was, of course, that Chaldea had hired the surviving masters of the Tenjinyama False Grail Incident - despite none of them actually matching the parameters for the FATE system of summoning, all of them had skills that could be utilised within the daily running of Chaldea.
At least they also had experience in dealing with Servants, too.
Jun, despite being an absolute space-case, had graduated culinary school just before the Incident and was summarily despatched to the canteen. Kaori already had experience in weaving magic into cloth for various reasons (mostly so if she bumped into something unpleasant, it wouldn't wound her), and so was sent to the Mystic Code department.
Initially, they were less than pleased to have a blind person working for them, but after she bashed their shins a few times 'on accident' - and their success metrics started being met - the attitude soon faded away.
Lastly, Minato was sent to tend to the mana conduits and generators under the watchful eye of Leonardo.
Kaori's room looks about as close to her old room as possible. The thick, plush rug covers the impersonal tiles, and her bed has her own linens on it. There are trinkets galore - including a single white rose, preserved in clear resin. It's wrapped in a worn piece of purplish cloth. It sits alongside a strand of jade and amethyst meditation beads, and a spare set of dark glasses. There are hangings on the walls - when asked, Kaori laughed.
"It's to make it quieter!" She said, smiling wide.

After Ritsuka Fujimaru clears Singularity F, the Tenjinyama trio converge in Kaori's room. The air is somber - some of the Masters had been here long enough to be known to them, and beyond that... Many of Chaldea's staff had gathered to watch the first ever mass Rayshift.
Before the explosion, there had been close to one hundred and fifty support staff - from kitchens to medical to those involved with the Rayshift itself. Now there were twenty-one, and the highest ranking one left was a doctor.
But beyond that, Jun had nearly passed out when Cu Chulainn - his Cu Chulainn, the druidic caster who'd helped the three of them escape the chaos at the end of the Incident - help, attack, and ultimate ally with Fujimaru.
Now, that man was wandering the halls of Chaldea - but he wasn't Jun's partner anymore. He was
