gumviolet: and caverns old (far over the misty mountains cold)

a thing? potentially?

Characters:
- Ex-Gloaming Court fey
- Cleric of the Morrighan
- Town guard who's part hellcat
- A mute scholar who happens to also be a mcguffin
- Two kids from the boonies

Plot:

- some dude wants to be king of whereveristan
- there's been ~civil unrest~ for a while due to the last ''anointed heir'' dying childless and sans heir like 80 years ago
- so this dude gets heself an army and goes 'might makes right, yes?' and proceeds to basically bully his way into being crowned by dint of fighting
- there's a tentative peace for like five years while he's looking for the ~magic crown~ that will confirm his right to rule by divine word (and also give him control over the wards that surround the crown city
- he hires some adventurers to get the crown (smart)
- crown is found (yay!) but there's a catch (boo)
- 'whomsoever wishes to wear the crown must be blessed by [celestial], lest they be judged unworthy' or smth
- dude goes yep that'll be fine that celestial died however many years ago along with the family of oracles it was associated with
- important: doesn't try the crown on first so as to seem '''''authentic''''''' on coronation day; even his advisers are nervous about this
- coronation day!! there's glitz!! there's glamour!! there's enough pomp and ceremony to feed several hundred starving orphans for a year!!
- oh no turns out the crown doesn't approve and tries to crack the dude's skull in front of several thousand witnesses
- oops
- also several people take advantage of chaos and try to assassinate king dude/advisors/important people
- day becomes known as the coronation bloodbath
- not a good sign for a wannabe king
- angry wannabe king calls on ex-fey and cleric and angrily rants about stuff in front of them
- advisor scurries in and says 'uh hey so there's maybe possibly a survivor of this oracle family and that's why the crown tried to eat you'
- advisor gets punched (poor dude), wannabe king rants and raves about how that family was exterminated for a reason, that if the crown wants blood it'll get the survivor's blood etc etc
- ex-fey's geas pings him REAL hard and he goes creepy threatening towards wannabe king
- turns out he was bound by the executed oracle to protect her daughter
- talk about a conflict of interest
- cleric and ex-fey bail on meeting and cleric does an investigate and determines that it's a long-standing geas that's doing this, and also ex-fey only barely remembers the circumstances of the geas-ing (oh dear)
- a frembly member of the guard comes along and tells them that hey they might wanna move along bc there's a curfew
- idle chatting that establishes more worldbuilding
- y'all elf-eared m-f'ers be hearing stuff real good
- it's wingbeats
- BIG wingbeats
- cleric suddenly realises that with the attempted crowning of an unanointed king, all the protective wards around the city cease to function (presumably so that the actual anointed one can have an easier time of getting their butt to the crown & throne)
- o fuk.jpg
- thunder & lightning reveals an dragon!!! o shit!!!
- trio bolt to nearest guard station bc there are protocols for this! thankfully guard-captain also realises that the wards are down and immediately springs into action
- magical flares are sent up and yep that's a dragon
- unfortunately to be effective over such a large city all the flares need to be activated in order to create a repelling shield
- ONWARDS
- panic is starting to set in, but this city has been through A Lot and so there are luckily very good bunkers/shelters for the civilians
- things continue
- suddenly dragon changes from attacking city to screm at sky
- there's always a bigger fish.wav
- it's THE TERROR WITH WINGS, THE NIGHT THAT FLIES aka the biggest scariest dragon in all the land
- guard goes ' u kno what, fuck this' and bails
- the cleric & ex-fey look at each other and go 'u know what, I never really liked this city anyway'
- the fastest of packing scenes (it helps if u never finished unpacking in the first place)
- time to hitch up the horses and hit that old town road
- hey there's that guard from before
- death rattle from smaller dragon, incoming corpse from 500 meters
- BIG YIKES
- incoming two kids
- guard says HEY I KNOW YOU
- kids just being like HALP PLS LET US LEAVE
- cleric says aight sure
- ex-fey says hop on i'm gonna do an thing
- shadow-warp out of the city
- ex-fey passes out, watches as the night that flies lands and starts investigating (that's a big dragon)

end chapter one????

chapter two

- introducing a really cool-ass library fortress surrounded by a big-ass wall with farms inside it
- also introducing scholar who is also an plot device
- things occur
- exposition on library fortress and library and muting spell
- incoming plot at the speed of messenger birb
- inter-personal drama among scholars (bc of course there is)
- ?????????

chapter three (???)

- open road???
- 'so what now' 'we didn't think this far enough through' 'no shit genius'
chapter between three and fancy party???
- charming village with adventure sites
- dokis all around
- relationship talk between ex-fey and cleric
- guard bonds with the kids
- sign language lessons
- BED SHARING (no spice)

chapter: fetchquests

- 'if u can translate a thing I hep' 'ok'
- 'pls stop the things from from Witch-King's Mountain' 'BIG HMM BUT OKAY???'

chapter (?????)
- [chapter music: bring honor to us all & masquerade from phantom of the opera]
- ex-fey is owed a big-ass favour by the fanciest bath house/dressmaker/fancy-fying place in all the land
- it's an excuse to see everyone dressed to the nines and have the mutual realisation of oh no they're hot (except the kids, who have crushes)
- THERE'S A FANCY DRESS BALL THAT'S WHY
- costumes are all very tailored to each person but still cohesive as a group
- TA DAAAAH here's the oracle family ceremonial get-up as rendered by fey tailors
- wow that's fancy
- she a queen
- at this point it's still unclear whether the oracle is meant to SIT the throne or merely anoint the ones who can (yay unclear wording....)
- [dancing and politics ensue]
- guard and ex-fey cause a ruckus by doing an spicy dance (inspo: paso doble from strictly ballroom)
- which allows scholar to be snuck upstairs to do [plot relevant thing] with cleric
- plot is furthered, without the need for fighting
- chapter ends with love confession & slow dance?? I think??

chapter: ending

- I don't know how to end this
- help
